As you may know, I am passionate about discovering how nutrition affects chronic illness. More and more research is emerging about the impact of specific foods on the body. A brain tumor occurs when abnormal cells are formed due to a mutation. Two of the most common types of brain tumors are Gliomas and Meningiomas. A meningioma is typically a benign tumor. Benign tumors grow slowly and do not spread (metastasize). Since I have a meningioma myself, I am very pleased that more research is being conducted on how nutrition affects brain tumors.

Scientific research suggests that poor diet, smoking, alcohol, and stress can increase the risk of developing a brain tumor. Regardless of whether you already have a diagnosis, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is always beneficial. In some cases, a significant change in diet may even help stabilize or shrink a tumor.

Experts recommend reducing exposure to radiation whenever possible. At home, you can do this by keeping televisions out of the bedroom and not placing your smartphone on your nightstand. If you use your phone as an alarm, switch it to airplane mode to block Wi-Fi radiation. It is vital to make lifestyle adjustments, such as managing stress levels, quitting smoking, and adopting a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables. An anti-inflammatory diet is an excellent option;

Lifestyle, Hormones, and Nutrition

It can be quite overwhelming to read that lifestyle and nutrition may play a role in the development of a brain tumor like a meningioma. It certainly gives one food for thought. Furthermore, hormones play a significant role, particularly in meningiomas. Personally, I stopped taking hormonal contraceptives immediately after learning there is a higher risk of meningioma associated with exposure to hormonal birth control.

Fortunately, I already follow a healthy path by adhering to an anti-inflammatory diet. I eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and practice meditation and yoga regularly. As you’ve read in this blog, lifestyle and nutrition can have a very positive effect on managing brain tumors.
