The Power of Lifestyle and Nutrition in Managing a Meningioma

As you probably know by now, I am always searching for answers. How can we support our bodies when they seem to fail us? Today, I want to discuss a topic that is very close to my heart: the impact of nutrition and lifestyle on a meningioma.

When I discovered that I have a meningioma myself, my entire perspective shifted. Although this type of brain tumor is usually benign, meaning it grows slowly and doesn’t metastasize, it is still an “intruder” in your head. The good news? Scientific evidence is increasingly showing that we are not powerless. Through our lifestyle choices and what we put on our plates, we can influence the environment in which such a tumor exists.

What Nutrition Can Do

It might sound intense, but research suggests that factors such as a processed diet, smoking, and chronic stress can stimulate the growth of abnormal cells. Scientists are discovering that tumors (even benign ones) often thrive in an environment of chronic inflammation and high insulin levels.

This is why I am such a strong advocate for an anti-inflammatory diet. By choosing an abundance of vegetables, healthy fats, and berries (and cutting out refined sugars), we make our bodies less hospitable to abnormal cells. There are even documented cases where a rigorous change in diet helped inhibit tumor growth. Please note: I am not a doctor. I share this information based on scientific research and my own personal journey.

The Role of Hormones and Radiation

Something many women are unaware of is the link between hormones and meningiomas. As soon as I read that hormonal contraceptives (like the pill) can increase the risk of growth, I stopped taking them immediately. Giving my hormonal balance a rest felt like a logical step in protecting my health.

Additionally, I have become much more mindful of radiation. Our brains are “on” all day long. I have banished the television from the bedroom, and my smartphone is strictly on airplane mode at night. Or better yet, left in another room. Peace for your mind literally means peace for your cells.

Taking Control of Your Own Process

It can feel overwhelming to hear that lifestyle plays such a significant role. You might even feel a sense of guilt, but that is absolutely not how I see it. I see it as an opportunity. It gives me strength to know that through yoga, meditation, and the right nutrition, I can give my body a helping hand.

I’m curious: what is your take on this? Have you adjusted your lifestyle after a diagnosis, or do you find it difficult to find your way? Let’s support each other in this quest for a healthier life, even when carrying a heavy backpack.

Wishing you strength and love. ♥
